Advancement in Scouting

Advancement in Scouts is determined by the Scout’s abilities, motivation and individual drive for achievement. The ranks of Scouting are:

Scout Rank

Boy works in a new scout patrol.

Basically the same items as covered in the Arrow of Light

Scoutmaster Conference

 

Tenderfoot through First Class 

The Scout works with PL and Instructors

Active in troop and patrol Scout spirit

Gradual introduction to scout craft, camping, hiking, etc.

Goal is to accomplish in 1-2 years

 

Star Scout

Scout works on his own with adult guidance

Active in troop and patrol Scout spirit

Earn 6 Merit Badges – 4 required

Leadership Experience

Service Project – worker

 

Life Scout 

Scout works on his own with adult guidance

Active in troop and patrol Scout spirit

Earn 5 additional Merit Badges – 3 required

Leadership Experience

Service Project – mini-leadership project

 

Eagle Scout

Young man works on his own with adult guidance

Active in troop and patrol Scout spirit

Earn 10 additional Merit Badges – 5 required

Leadership Experience

Service Project – plan, develop, and give leadership

Eagle Palms

Boy working on his own with adult guidance

Active in troop and patrol

Scout spirit

Earn 5 additional Merit Badges – all elective
